Today is bittersweet- its the end to One Tree Hill but at the same time will open many new beginnings for all the wonderful actors in this series. I haven't even been able to write this post until now ( Tuesday- a day before the finale) because I've literally been in denial. Don't think about the ending and it won't happen right? wrong... but that's not always a bad thing. I'm happy with where theses NINE seasons have gone and the memories that I have made along the way.

So this post is dedicated to those Tree Hill memories...

When One Tree Hill season 1 started it paralleled with my life- they were in the same grade I was, doing some of the same activities and experiences; Peyton and her Drawings, Cheerleading and watching Basketball play a major part in peoples lives. In a way it made a person feel like they weren't walking through high school alone, because lets face it, high school isn't all glitter and sunshine!

But apart from the cheerleading, basketball & the drama... there's a message. Each character is beautiful and smart, and flawed in their own way. I think that's what made One Tree Hill so powerful-- every person can take away a different meaning from it- whatever it is they need to grasp onto to get by, OTH had that.

So THANK YOU Mark Schwahn, for letting me and millions of others have the opportunity to learn and grow alongside the characters lives, in which you've created. And to the actors, I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.

Do you ever wonder if we make moments in our lives, or if the moments in our lives make us? - Lucas Scott

Last August, my sister Emilee and I took a spur of the moment road trip to Wilmington, NC where OTH is filmed; both at private& public locations around Wilmington and also Screen Gem Studios. Of course we didn't get to every place that we wanted to see due to time constraints but we were able to see the most recognizable and popular filming locations...

LUCAS SCOTT'S HOUSE!! This was of course one of our first stops! And a total fangirl moment-- I think more for me than Emilee ;-) but she enjoyed seeing his house also. Seeing where Lucas "lived" made the entire trip seem so real. I wanted to get a picture on the back steps next to the door to his room, but this was a residential home, so I refrained from doing so.

(In no particular order- because honestly I can't remember what days we did everything-- we were all over Wilmington!)

We went around and found the homes of Brooke Davis & Peyton Sawyer. Along with going downtown to Cape Fear community college where the high school scenes were shot. And also the building where Karen's Cafe used to be. They had a sign in the window marked "Karen's Cafe", so Emilee and I made sure to get our picture under it (of course it was POURING rain, so I will not post it! lol) but several years back they used to have the awning up- which would've been so neat to see! Of course it was taken down for C/B shooting purposes. And of course we had to find TRIC!

on Saturday we took a trip to Screen Gem Studios where One Tree Hill has been set for the last 9 years, and were able to take a tour. Normally they show 3 sets, and told us we could come back next week if we wanted to see all 3 for our monies worth, because they had a "hot" set and therefore we could only tour 2 of them. I had to laugh because there was NO stopping us from getting into that building-- we drove 14hours for this, one less set tour wasn't going to ruin a thing. It was like these gigantic separate rooms built inside a huge warehouse... pretty surreal how quickly the set gets taken down also. We first went through Red Bedroom Records and oh my goodness! The neatest feeling ever! Every little detail was all there- I fell in love. Then we went into Brooke and Julian's home which was actually in transition to being set up for filming, so that was neat to see. There were baby toys and bouncy cribs everywhere! lol
When Emilee and I heard about this we were devastated! But very glad that we had the opportunity to see it before it was gone. What an amazing experience just to be there to watch all of the Twilight stars, it never even dawned on me that I may see other celebrities there lol. So Hilarie comes over to sign autographs and my friend Tracy asks if she'd take a picture with me. I'm not one to ask for pictures- was in way to much shock that I lost all train of thought, so I'm forever grateful she asked for me. Hilarie was more than willing to take a picture; very very sweet! A covenant, which at once binds two souls and yet severs prior ties.
A celebration of the chance taken and the challenge that lies ahead.
For two will always be stronger than one, like a team braced against the tempest civil world.
And love will always be the guiding force in our lives. For tonight is mere formality.
The up and coming book to movie franchise that has been sweeping the nation; one that appeals to both the female and male population has finally made its way into our theaters! Here is my take on The Hunger Games first film adaptation of Suzanne Collins three book series:

Ever get the feeling when you are sitting in the theater, that no matter how much you know the storyline and the outcome of the movie because you've read the book, you find yourself a nervous wreck, a ball of emotion, because you are suddenly inside that characters perspective, to the point you question the next step in the storyline? Everything else is out the window, forget what you knew the outcome to be (even if it is exactly the same as the book) it doesn't matter, your emotional ties and instincts will overrule.

Katniss Everdeen and her family live in District 12; which is one of twelve Districts of Panem. Right away the audience gets a sense of the life in this District; poverty stricken, hard workers, minors. This is quickly in comparison with life in the Capitol; huge sturdy buildings, people overly dressed to make a statement, not having food is not in question. In the book, Suzanne Collins is detailed about the difference between each District and the Capitol- although we do not get a chance to see every district come to life, I believe director Gary Ross did a fantastic job at portraying the dramatic differences between life in District 12 and the Capitol.

Katniss finds the Mocking Jay pin while trading in goods, this is a major difference from the book. One that I wasn't fond of, until I saw Prim hand Katniss back the pin. I believed it tied her to the storyline more, making winning for Prim that much more a goal. Although I am still interested to see how the this will tie in later from the events that happen in the later books

The audience is seeing this story through several viewpoints... as an outsider for the most part. We get to follow Katniss' journey right along with her, but still able to see the reactions of the people able her to the events that are occurring. Once in the area, we are more "becoming" Katniss! The audience gets a sense of how Katniss feels; after the Tracker Jackers I loved the part where it shows the hallucinations. That is exactly how the book described Katniss feeling after being stung and we got the chance to see how she would see the arena.

We also get to see the game makers in action. Which isn't in the book- their changes are but only through Katniss' point of view and understanding. I liked this change- sets up the story well. And it also gives insight into Katniss trying to figure out "the game plan"

Main Characters::
Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen- Jennifer nailed the role! As someone who was skeptical from the beginning about 21 yo being able to portray a 16 year old, I couldn't have been more blown away her performance. Her emotions were our emotions! Burns- I've never felt so much pain in my life! The shaking, the tears, the lip biting... she didn't have to utter a word for anyone to know how much pain she was in. It was all so real.

Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark-- I loved the emotions he showed and lack there of during the reaping ceremony, the way Peeta knew how to "wow the crowd' with his charm at the Capitol, Josh did just that!

Liam Hemsworth as Gale- We don't get to see much of Gale in the first book. But right as he came on screen I cringed a little- he just isn't "Gale" to me, he looked too modelesque to be in District 12. The chemistry was how I thought it would be- they are nervous about the Reaping so they keep the conversations short, but the care and compassion for each other as friends is there.

Willow Shields as Primrose Everdeen, Katniss' sister who gets called at the reaping. WOW! just wow! If there was one actor I could pick out of this entire movie, who really stood out to me, it'd be Willow. She didn't have a prominent role, but one that left a lasting impression. Once Prim's name was called, there was nothing but void, as she slowly made her way down the aisle. As Katniss darts to her to say she wants to volunteer, the emotions are everywhere. I think its one of those situations where you as yourself, would I do the same? And throughout the entire movie, Katniss is always going back to Prim. She is fighting for her sister! She has a motherly instinct over her Prim which led to her protection over Rue. I was very happy with the way Rue's death was filmed. Then there was the flash scene to the District 11 revolting against the Capitol, which sets up for the next movie.

Chemistry:
The brother/ sister chemistry I felt between Katniss and Peeta, worked well for this film! Katniss was never positive of her feelings for Peeta, she couldn't commit to them because in her mind she playing a game. She would do whatever she needed to survive. So there was skepticism written all over Jennifer's face at times, and then it would click that Katniss needs to pick up the flirting to get what they need to win the games. It was always about survival for her, even if there was some deep underlying love- survival was first, and THAT was evident throughout the film!

The chemistry between Katniss and Cinna I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to write about! I admire both of these characters; Cinna makes Katniss a stronger person- gives her the confidence she needs, she already has the knowledge and strength, she just needed the encouragement.Lenny Kravitz wasn't who I pictured as Cinna, I expected someone a little more "out there" and crazy and chipper, but the chemistry between these two overruled any thoughts I had about how I originally perceived Cinna.
---------------------

A big negative, which could ultimately make or break the movie for some was the camera work. Seeing The Hunger Games in IMAX, I would not do it again, unless maybe taking some Dramamine before going. In the beginning of the movie we are shown District 12 through a person's eyes; therefore, it almost looks like a home video- very unstable. I loved the concept of this and I think it could've turned out awesome, it was just poorly done. During "The Games" as all the Tributes are on their stands, as they take off towards the cornucopia once the buzzer goes off, the camera pans to one tribute running... then back to another few tributes fighting, then pans back to that first person. It was very difficult to tell what was going on. I'm not a movie expert but to me if they panned to one person, and cut to the next, we would've had the same effect and actually been able to see who was fighting who.

Overall, despite having to get past the awful camera work... I loved this film! The book to movie adaptation was great! I was floored by the detail that was taken into consideration. The screenwriter for The Hunger Games, I want to thank because even though there are a few parts that I noticed were different and aren't in the movie, I haven't really been able to come up with any lines or scenes that I truly wish were included. Yes, there were differences from the book to the movie- like all book to movie adaptations- but the story stayed true! The emotions that I had while watching the film were the same that I had while reading The Hunger Games for the very first time... and getting those reactions from a fan is what truly counts!

We were able to find parking close and in walking distance from where we needed to be for $20. Not too bad. The streets and sidewalks weren't crowded yet (later that night when more activities started, the crowds rolled in), but the energy in Indianapolis was great!
We walked around the circle for a bit. On Meridian in front of the circle were the Indy Cars with each NFL team logo on them. Later, we made our way down to the Superbowl Village where DJ Pauly D was scheduled to perform of the Verizon stage. The Huddle, which is located where Nordstroms used to be in the mall was transformed into an area where people could go in to have a sit, get something to eat, view an art gallery they had set up. WTHR also had an area where they are covering the superbowl activities and news. The second level is all merchandise-- anything and everything Patriots and Giants gear :-)
We all know that resolutions don't work out... so this was a fun idea and it worked out well. There isn't any rules to writing your list... but I always try to add a few fun easy accomplishments too.

so here is my list for 2012...

If you haven't made a list... you should try it!! And if you have, then what are a few things that you added for 2012?
There were some books I didn't get a chance to read that came out this year, that were a huge hit, but I'll be sure to blog about those when I get the chance to read them. :-) And of course many more I read that should/could be added to list.. but I'm trying my hardest to stick with 10!!

The song is absolutely beautiful and the video made for it is just stunning- sums up the entire Twilight series in almost 5 mins.

So I spent some time making screen caps of the video-
Title: The Night Circus
Author: Erin Morgenstern
Date Published: September 13, 2011
Pages: 387

Synopsis:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night. But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.
Review: Happy Book Birthday!! Ever since listening to a short interview that Erin Morgenstern did with Comicon radio The Night Circus was a book I couldn't wait to get my hands on! And today it is FINALLY out for others to read and I hope you enjoy this novel as much as I did...

Once you enter the first page, do not intend to leave the circus- one like you've never experienced before- until the very last line is read. And even then, this story will carry on with you-I know it did me. The magic that wavers through the writing and every sentence is magnificent. The thought and knowledge the the author, Erin Morgenstern put into The Night Circus is vivid! The plot is deep, with a idea of simplicity, and a storyline that will blow you away. The way Erin describes the circus blew me away. The reader feels as if they have taken a step through those iron gates, and into the striped tents. From the sights and sounds to even the smells, every minute detail is explained.

The Night Circus is a book that you will not want to put down!

The characters in this book are complex... the love of the circus is something that each of them have in common- but for some, it is magic that binds them together. In this book, the way that the author introduces each of these characters and brings them all together is rather complex. There are three different stories being told;two of those characters (Marco and Celia) do not know that they are training for a "game", let alone do they know who their competitor is. Both Marco and Celia are characters that anyone can love very easily, their magic and talents alone draws any readers attention. I wasn't disappointed at all with how their story plays out- although there are leaps and bounds that every character has to endure- their love never fails.

Bailey, who's a young boy and the third story in this book, comes into play very nicely. His story is separate from all the other characters in the book- not having any role in the actual circus, he is just a boy who falls in love with the circus and the circus falls in love with him.

The Night Circus is a novel that will most definitely be passed down from generation to generation. With that being said, I believe it is ideal for any age group who has an interest in fictional writing. Or someone who wants to take a break from everyday life, jump into a good book, and explore what this circus has to offer ;-) You won't be disappointed!

Title: Twilight, True Love & You: Seven Secret Steps to Finding Your Edward or Jacob

Summary: Presents seven secret steps towards true love. Suitable for girls who adore vampires or werewolves, this title helps them to learn how to find lasting love and loyalty with a human.

Review: First off, I want to give a little cover love- the cover is sharp, it is obvious that this book is in relation to the Twilight Saga, and caught my eyes right away :-) Twilight, True Love & You is a different genre book than I normally pick up to read. This book would probably be considered "lifestyle" or "health & well-being" genre and I tend to stay away mainly because I don't like that some books make you feel as though the author is preaching to you. This book though, isn't designed to feel that way at all!

With Twilight True Love and You, the author, Louise Deacon takes a fun approach at explaining the ways that women should go about in trying to find "their Edward or Jacob". What she means by this isn't going out and finding a vampire or werewolf ... its more than that. She takes it step by step, focusing on ideas like past relationships, expectations, and personalities.

NOTE: You do NOT need to be a fan of Twilight or have even read the books to love and understand this book. Louise simply uses the characters of Twilight as examples in her book. The beginning was more about Edward and Jacob and debunking their "amazing" characteristics. For those who are obsessed with Edward or Jacob (like me ;-)) it was almost a reality check.

Louise also uses Psychology data and research, along with personal stories of friends and clients to further support and explain her ideas.

Having a psychology degree myself, I thought this book was fascinating!! I think that it would be a great read for several groups of people: Those obsessed with Team Edward or Jacob & can't seem to let go of the fact that no man will ever match up, people who are interested in psychology type reads whether they've read Twilight or not, and psychology students. The entire time I was reading I felt as though Twilight, True Love, and You would be a great book to use as a reference in a psychology class.

I tend to try and read anything that has to do with Twilight- its fascinating to see what connections fans (and even those who aren't fans) have to say about all sorts of topics related the Twilight Saga! Looking at relationships and how fantasy novels are interpreted by humans is a great take on a book. It didn't disappoint!
Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15136669073607897415noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1785587217120559032.post-51809298590939243582011-08-29T19:11:00.003-04:002011-09-12T15:33:53.685-04:00Boston Twilight Convention (August 19-21)So, this was my first Twi Tour experience... and I had a blast!! Who imprinted on Emily.

Tinsel talked a little about the process of applying the scar on her face- she said that in the beginning it took over 8hours, but eventually the process got faster and faster. She also said that at one point they started to put her scar on the wrong side of her face- which all Twilight fans know Emily's scar is on the right side of her face- caused by Sam who lost control of his wolf temper. When asked about memorizing lines for roles she says that once she knows that story, the lines come easily. And she enjoys playing pranks on the "wolf boys" when it's downtime on set. LOL- can only imagine!

The Hillywood girls were DJs and they also chose the winner for the centerpiece displays. Which were so cool!! Some people really got into this ball- with prom dresses and some even dressed up at vampires.
________________________________________________________________________
Summary: Rose McKenna volunteers as a lunch mom in her daughter Melly’s school in order to keep an eye on Amanda, a mean girl who’s been bullying her daughter. Her fears come true when the bullying begins, sending Melly to the bathroom in tears. Just as Rose is about to follow after her daughter, a massive explosion goes off in the kitchen, sending the room into chaos. Rose finds herself faced with the horrifying decision of whether or not to run to the bathroom to rescue her daughter or usher Amanda to safety. She believes she has accomplished both, only to discover that Amanda, for an unknown reason, ran back into the school once out of Rose's sight. In an instance, Rose goes from hero to villain as the small community blames Amanda’s injuries on her. In the days that follow, Rose's life starts to fall to pieces, Amanda’s mother decides to sue, her marriage is put to the test, and worse, when her daughter returns to school, the bullying only intensifies. Rose must take matters into her own hands and get down to the truth of what really happened that fateful day in order to save herself, her marriage and her family.

Review: I have been reading Lisa Scottoline's novels for years; she writes suspenseful, mysterious reads with plots that will have a person gasping for air until the last sentence is read. Her latest style and genre has taken a slight turn, but in a good way! Lisa still continues to give that reader the intense, thrilling feel but real life controversial subject matters are put into play.

I enjoy reading about controversial topics and seeing how an author incorporates or makes it into his or her own story. And in the end seeing how the outcome of that controversy takes place. In Save Me, the subject matter are two ideas: bullying and the question, "If you can only save one person, then who's child should you save, yours or somebody else's?"

Melly is an 8 year old who is bullied due to a large birthmark that sets her apart from the other peers in her class. I believe that Lisa did a fabulous job at portraying a young girl who is innocent and interested in little girl things (okay, maybe not barbie dolls & fashion, but Harry Potter! Who can blame her!) but at the same time she understands that she doesn't fit in.

Melly's mother Rose does what any mother would do. She volunteers at the school so that she can keep an extra eye on her daughter. Meanwhile, a tragic even happens that leaves Rose with the decision to take the children who have been bullying her daughter outside to the playground where they can be safe, or go find her Melly before it's too late. She quickly reacts and tries to get all the children to safety. Unbeknownst to Rose, not every child she tried to help made it out of the school building unharmed. Rose has to juggle between being a Hero Mom- saving her own daughter and being a villain who chose her daughter over others.

Rose's character changed throughout the book and I loved that about her. Her overall personality shifted. She doesn't stand back from the crowd near the end of the novel anymore. She takes charge and does all she can to figure out who caused the tragic events that started at Reesburgh school.

Events begin to take place that unravels important information. Information that most people would overlook, but Rose has her heart set on getting down to the bottom of this mysterious explosion. The one that she has been potentially blamed for by student parents because she chose to save her daughter over others. Believe me, when you think everything is just starting to settle down---new surprises arise!!! ;-)

This book was creative and pieced together so well. I enjoyed Save Me by Lisa Scottoline and look forward to seeing where she goes next with a new novel.

Summary:
One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.

Review: Ever wonder what your life would be like if you could go back in time and change just one little thing? Maybe something that was life changing, didn't work out the way you wanted, broke you heart, or even something you may regret? This isn't the first time I've thought about these questions and Hourglass makes a person think about the pros and cons for being able to change the past.

To say I loved this book would be an understatement. It's actually very hard to write this review without spoilers, so I'm going to try my hardest. Myra McEntire's story has various elements that come together in different dimensions- hmm..where to start?
The overall psychological aspect of this book had me from the beginning- trying to understand a character who doesn't even understand herself. The reader grows alongside Emerson as she discovers who she really is, and what she can do with the "gift" she has.

A reader can emotionally connect with the main character Emerson. She lost her parents and in the midst of all that she also looses herself. Emerson begins to discover she has a gift, in which she often mistakes as being "crazy" because she doesn't understand how seeing people and objects from the past can be helpful. The connection that Em has with her brother is strong and heartfelt. If I had an older brother I'd want him to be just like Thomas. Always wanting the best for his younger sister, he hires Michael.
Michael, who works at Hourglass comes into play very early on in the book. That is something that I enjoyed greatly- events are always taking place when you least expect them. Michael is one of those people who seem mysterious. You know there is more to his character that hasn't been revealed yet, so we patiently wait. haha. Emerson may think that she is alone in her crazy world, but Michael is more like her than she thinks and together they have to undergo a mission that could potentially hurt or even kill them both. They don't know what they are up against and the people that they least expect are against them!

Sound dramatic? it is! And that is one small element to this amazing story that pulled me in even deeper And the twists and turns towards the end of the plot are written so well- I didn't see it coming. Hourglass is a creative read that will take you back in time, to look at life and question whether or not life would be better if one little detail from the past is changed.

Summary: Violet Ambrose is grappling with two major issues: Jay Heaton and her morbid secret ability. While the sixteen-year-old is confused by her new feelings for her best friend since childhood, she is more disturbed by her "power" to sense dead bodies—or at least those that have been murdered. Since she was a little girl, she has felt the echoes that the dead leave behind in the world... and the imprints that attach to their killers. Violet has never considered her strange talent to be a gift. But now that a serial killer has begun terrorizing her small town, and the echoes of the local girls he's claimed haunt her daily, she realizes she might be the only person who can stop him.

Review: WOW! was literally the first word that rolled off my tongue right after I read the very last page of The Body Finder and closed the cover. I'm not even sure where to start with this book honestly. I read the synopsis one night as I filed through a large stack of sale books at a bookstore and was immediately impressed with the storyline. When I read first read the title, I thought maybe it was similar to those "I see dead people" movies... but I was wrong, and in a good way! The Body Finder surpassed all my expectations of a fantastic read: the vocabulary and writing is exquisite, a thrilling storyline with a plot that will have any person on edge, and some of the sweetest and not so sweetest characters ever.

Kimberly Derting chose to write about young girl named Violet who has a special gift for finding anything that may be deceased. My first thought was, oh my goodness, I can't even imagine a young girl going through all of this and being okay. But Violet is one tough girl, even at the risk of her own life she sets off to find a killer who has been burying little girls in which Violet finds. Her writing will have you gasping for air and yelling at the book because there are many surprises (and everyone loves surprises...right??)

I loved the fact that Kimberly adds tidbits of the killers thoughts into the book- yes, parts were creepy, but it made my mind turn and question myself as to who the killer could possibly be.

There is a fun romance story amongst the frightening and suspenseful storyline that had me head over heals in love with the couple: Violet and her best friend, Jay. The author does an excellent job with portraying a young couple. Another thing I truly enjoyed was reading the dialogue between Violet and her school friends- typical high school girls- had me laughing.

It is VERY easy to sit down and read in a days time. Don't be surprised if you can't put it down. Yes, its that good! :-) I recommend this book to anyone. I do think that some of the ideas could potentially scare a younger reader, afterall, it is about a girl who tries and finds a killer after she uncovers the bodies that he has buried, but yes, this book is great, and I can't wait to continue with the second book Desires of the Dead!

Author Chevy Stevens knows how to write gripping novels that will have you literally on the edge of your seat. I read this book in one setting, just could not put it down. I would tell myself "okay after this chapter I'll go do something else" then another intriguing event happened and I had to find out the results. The intensity and suspense factor in this book were high at times and low at others, but never went away. The author was full of surprises in the plot, which I loved!!

The topic of adoption is the overall theme of this book and having a family member who has been adopted this made the book even more interesting. I think this is something not everyone can relate to on a direct level, but it definitely will pull at the heartstrings.

Sara, the main character is someone who an reader should and could look up to. She is a woman who seems brave, but only because of the circumstances that are thrown her way she has to be for her family. Sometimes a person has to chose the right thing to do, even if that may mean going against what others are saying, in order to keep family safe. And Sara does exactly that. I truely enjoyed the characters in Never Knowing. Each person had a distinct personality that allows a reader to understand a little more about what they could be thinking about the actions that Sara takes.

Overall, Never Knowing was an intense, enjoyable read! I look forward to picking up Chevy Steven's other book Still Missing.

Review: I have never read any books about angels before, but after reading this book, I definitely will! Crossroads lets a person's imagination explore a a world where only books can take you. Crossroads is a wonderful Young Adult book that could be categorized as a Paranormal Romance.

Speaking of Paranormal Romance, the two main characters in Crossroads, Claudia and Michael are wonderful! I absolutely fell in love with both these characters. In the beginning you automatically want to dislike Michael, but can't help taking a liking to his personality throughout the book. Claudia is a girl who I believe most teenagers could relate to, besides the fact that she has a special supernatural gift, that even she is unaware she has. Although there were characters that I could not stand due to their greed and lies and pure evilness, Mary did a fantastic job at writing the part of Aden, a Fallen who is after Claudia.

For first time, self published author, I was impressed. I loved the way author Mary Ting wrote; she added so much detail into the story that made a reader feel as if they were actually there. The writing was fun but at the same time there were tidbits that were suspenseful and serious. This book is a page turner, unfortunately at the time I was reading I was busy and had to allow myself to read only several chapters at a time, which was very difficult to do! So I recommend having a day or two filled with nothing but reading Crossroads. The ending will have you wanting more!

I would recommend this book to anyone! Crossroads is a fantastic YA book. It goes beyond the cliched paranormal romance and makes a person question the true meaning of love, life and religion. Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15136669073607897415noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1785587217120559032.post-63480335613030532842011-07-27T23:40:00.001-04:002011-07-27T23:49:16.148-04:002 months until the release of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
Author: Amy Plum
Publisher: Harper Teen

Synopsis: In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

My Review: Need a book that will take you away to the beautiful scenery and life on the outskirts of Paris, just the right amount of thrill and suspense with a breathtaking romantic tie in, and not to mention a handsome & charming non-human? Then Die for Me is the novel for you ;-)

I picked up Die for Me after hearing mixed reviews, I needed to find out where I stood in the midst of Paranormal Romance novels and the truth is, Die for Me stole my heart- or rather the characters did! There is something about a human and a non-human (in this case a Revenant) falling in love that is gripping. Everyone wants something that they can't have, it is just the matter of how far are we willing to go to get what we want. This story shows just that.

Certain parts of the book had me in tears, others I was laughing, and throughout I was even scared for a few of the characters. Based on the emotions I described, the pace of the book follows; gradually rising and falling. Personally I love reading fast, adrenaline filled books, but enjoy when I have a chance to slow down to fall in love with a character and learn more about them. Die for me was a great balance between suspense and romance.

One of my personal favorites about this book was that the author, Amy Plum came up with an entirely new "monster" "villian" "immortal" or whatever other word you may use to describe the un-dead. It was hard to wrap my head around something that wasn't the normal Vampire, Werewolf, Zombie creature but Amy put together an impressive story about Revenants to the point where I kept asking myself if they were also under the category with the other 3 and I just missed it. I was and still am impressed with the creativity throughout this book.

Also, If you haven't been to France, this book will make you want to book a flight!! ;-)
Overall, I loved this read! I recommend for anyone who likes a great Paranormal Romance or even if you aren't sure if that is a category you would enjoy, pick it up anyways. You never know, you might surprise yourself!
Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...

Review: I had heard a lot of great comments about this series and was finally able to go through my stack of books and begin to read If I Stay. I was drawn in right from the beginning. The author does a fantastic job at creating a visual picture of the scenes written in the book. If I Stay has such a deep emotional tie, that it is hard not to want to continue reading!

The characters in this book are very likable. Mia, the sole character of the book has very fun, hip, supportive parents; I enjoyed reading the sections where Mia would describe her mother and father. During the dialogue it was great to see the difference between her parents personalities and their daughters- Mia may be the oddball, but I couldn't help but feel the warmth, acceptance and encouragement she received from her family. In fact, Mia has everything any teenager could possibly want; She is being considered into Julliard, Adam her rocker boyfriend has the sweetest personality and who couldn't enjoy reading about her silly younger brother Teddy who always looks up to her.

Gayle uses a writing style that I don't normally like; she switches back and forth between past events/stories and the present. Sometimes I feel as though that can either be confusing or interrupts the book. But I never felt that way while reading If I Stay; the emotions, feelings that I had while reading transferred over.

I believe this book was a reality check, it makes a person look around and think "Wow! My whole world could easily turn upside down in the blink of an eye." Gayle writes from the patients (Mia) perspective which is something that a reader doesn't always get to experience. The emotions and feelings that Mia has are believable, heartbreaking, and real. She is telling the story how she sees it as an observer of her own life, watching herself lie in the hospital. While watching these events unfold, hearing what her loved ones have to say, Mia has to make some valuable decision- one that won't only change her life but those around her. While reading I could help but put myself in Mia's shoes & wonder what my choice would've been. As well as what path I believe Mia should take-Should she stay or should she go.

Overall, I truly enjoyed reading If I Stay. So as a "spur of the moment" idea I decided to take a quick trip to Naperville, IL to the Dark Days of Supernatural Summer Tour that was being held at Anderson's Bookshop on June 7th. The authors on the tour were Veronica Roth- Divergent, Ellen Schrieber- 8 Cryptic Cravings (Vampire Kisses Series), Aprilynne Pike- Illusions (The Wings Series), Tara Hudson - Hereafter, and Amy Plum- Die for me. This was my very first tour and signing, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to go.
The main reason I went was to see Veronica Roth- author of Divergent. I absolutely loved that book! You can read my book review for Divergent here
I met up with Jasmine and Jacinda from The Reading Housewives of Indiana. We went out to eat beforehand, walked around downtown Naperville and ate some delicious Gelato. Then went into the bookstore early so we could get good seats (In the front row!)Who knew how much fun 3 book lovers could have!!! lol. Check out there book blog here
These authors are hilarious. They had the crowd laughing the entire time.

Aprilynne says that she is a religious planner-everything is outlined. She doesn't skip ahead because she loves writing endings, so going from beginning to end is her motivation to finish. Veronica on the other-hand does not outline her writing process. She writes out of order- wrote Four's part first because she found him compelling ( so did the rest of us ;-) LOL)

Amy Plum, Tara Hudson, & Ellen Schrieber always knew what ages their characters would be. Aprilynne logically worked out what age her character was going to be based on how many books she was going to have. Veronica Roth said she wanted Tris to be 16 because it that aged seemed like an "awful" idea for someone to choose what to do in life.

Veronica Roth shared.... If you check her blog next week she will reveal the name of the 2nd book in the Divergent Series!! (*squeee* I am so excited about this!)

And it was the Book Birthday of Hereafter that day also! It was very exciting to have Tara there talking about the book. I hadn't preordered it so I bought it after hearing her talk about it! Sounds like a fantastic read.

I went home with every book except for Ellen Schreiber's 8 Cryptic Cravings. I hadn't read that series yet, but maybe one of these days will get the chance to read them! Also came home with some cool swag: Signed bookmarks, bracelets, and Divergent tattoos.
On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. And after reading books like The Hunger Games Series, I had to pick up a few more novels in this genre. What does Dystopian mean? Well, below is a quick definition:

Dystopian is a fictional society; when the conditions of life are extremely bad

due to deprivation, oppression, or terror. In most dystopian fiction, a corrupt

government creates or sustains the poor quality of life, often conditioning the

masses to believe the society is proper and just, even perfect.

The above is a perfect example of the society in Divergent. At the age of 16, Beatrice is made to choose one of the five factions (a group/society) that the city of Chicago is divided into. Each faction having a their own distinct rules and identity. While reading I couldn't help but wonder which faction I would belong to? On Veronica Roth's blog she explains the first 100 pages of Divergent including a definition for each faction. I put a quick summary of her blog post below:

DAUNTLESS: fearless, undaunted (courageously resolute in the face of danger/difficulty).

ABNEGATION: .to refuse or deny oneself (some rights, conveniences, etc.); reject; renounce.

ERUDITE: characterized by great knowledge; learned or scholarly

CANDOR: the state or quality of being frank, open, and sincere in speech or expression; candidness.

AMITY: friendship; peaceful harmony. mutual understanding and a peaceful relationship, especially between nations; peace; accord.

After reading Divergent I couldn't come to a conclusion of which faction I would choose; but two that I would best be fit for: Candor & Dauntless - honest & brave. Say what's on my mind & a little bit of a daredevil! lol

So, which faction would you be in?

The characters in Divergent are written incredibly well, not to mention I fell in love with a few (who can't love Beatrice & Four ;-) ) I was very impressed. Each character belongs to a different faction, and it was very easy to tell by the way the character talks to one another & their actions which faction they belonged to. Or in some cases which faction they are in but don't necessarily belong there. This isn't always easy to do, and each character had a distinct voice.

One of my favorites parts to this book is that I believe the author, Veronica takes a very relate-able topic, and makes it into this adrenaline filled novel. Beatrice has to make the ultimate choice, continue to be in a faction with her family or chose a faction that best fits her personality. We all have to develop a sense of self: who are we? who we hang around? What do we want out of life? And maybe those things aren't exactly what our parents or family would choose for us or even be a part of. All in all, the messages are clear, you just have to think a little (which I love about books- everyone can take from it what they want). I have never taken so many notes on my Nook before.

Overall, the WOW factor & excitement of Divergent is over the top! This book was a page turner no doubt and will keep you up into the wee hours of the night. I can't wait for the next book- the ending was a bit tortuous I will say- leaves the reader with a bit of a cliff hanger ;-) ***** Five of Five Stars

Synopsis:
Rachel White is the consummate good girl. A hard-working attorney at a large Manhattan law firm and a diligent maid of honor to her charmed best friend Darcy, Rachel has always played by all the rules. Since grade school, she has watched Darcy shine, quietly accepting the sidekick role in their lopsided friendship. But that suddenly changes the night of her thirtieth birthday when Rachel finally confesses her feelings to Darcy's fiance, and is both horrified and thrilled to discover that he feels the same way. As the wedding date draws near, events spiral out of control, and Rachel knows she must make a choice between her heart and conscience. In so doing, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk everything to be true to yourself. (From Goodreads)
My Review:
My first thought after a wonderful friend recommended this book was, oh boy here we go, just another chick-lit type read that has a predictable ending (we all know I love to be surprised with twists in the plot ;-) ). So I tried it out anyways and although it did take me a little time to get used to the slower pace of this genre that I'm not normally used to reading, I would say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading Something Borrowed.

Yes, the story is predictable to an extent, but Emily Giffin portrays her characters with so much life and personality that a reader starts to look beyond what will happen in these characters lives and focus on the present. There is too much drama that needs to be understood and fixed before any of these characters can really begin to find themselves.

Emily takes a reader down the path of two best friends,Rachel and Darcy. Rachel the average person who is always wanting something just a tad bit better, and is always comparing herself alongside her "I'm always perfect. It is all about Me, Me, Me" best friend Darcy. The characters are very relate-able. Although we may not have a friend who is identical to Darcy (let's hope not!) in some way I think everyone, at some point, is a Rachel. Whether we are the work-a-holics who have to follow the rule books or always think of ourselves as average compared to someone who has a very high sense of self worth.

It seems so unfair that Darcy always gets what she wants at such little cost to her that I was happy for Rachel when Dex (the fiance of Darcy and friend of Rachel) hooked up. Although I don't condone cheating AT ALL, there was a part of me that was happy for her. Rachel finally got a piece of what she was looking for. She was able to begin to figure out what she really wanted in life; asking herself questions about who & what mattered most to her.Others have disagreed with me, but I'm going to side with Rachel on this one!

There were a few things that came up about Darcy that had surprised me at the end... ultimately making the story more exciting. :-)

I think that there are lots of little ideas that a person can take away from this novel. I love that Rachel finally goes for what she wants. And in a way, Darcy does too she just doesn't know it yet. Life takes turns and we may be blinded as to the direction our lives are taking, but eventually it will lead to a lighted path, we just have to be patient. Something Borrowed was a novel that shows just that!!
